Loah – Cortege (Kormac Remix) Out Now

Kormac remix of Loah’s stunning track Cortege has been released into the world. Have a read about it below and stream the track on Spotify here.

Irish-Sierra Leonean artist Loah (real name Sallay Matu Garnett) is known for a distinctive sound that blends her African and Irish roots together to form tracks that are totally unique and individual to her. She released her first long-form project in the form of a six-track EP last year, This Heart and now it is getting a new lease of life in a brand new remix EP.

“Cortège is a song that was prompted by deep loss. It is about the curious and gentle nature of the feminine spirit, what it means, what it adds to our lives – qualities like nurturing, acceptance and unconditional love. The language it’s sung is in Sherbro, my Sierra Leonean grandfather’s native tongue. I was very honoured to have Kormac remix it as he brings his personal experience, depth of emotional character and profound musicality to the work.”

Kormac brings Equivalent Exchange to Electric Picnic

Kormac will be bringing his brand new show, Equivalent Exchange, with the Irish Chamber Orchestra to Electric Picnic, closing the Other Voices stage on Sunday. He’ll be joined on stage by Kormac’s Big Band, Loah, Shahab and Shayan Coohe, Jack O’ Rourke and Stephen James Smith.

Equivalent Exchange’s creative concept is a new departure for Kormac. He has relinquished the writing and creative processes he has practiced over the last few years to try a completely new approach, embracing his new orchestral training to discover a whole new way of working, with a chamber orchestra at his fingertips and a new sonic palette to explore. In 2017 Kormac decamped to Bulgaria to study under Europe’s leading composers, conductors and orchestrators to put himself firmly out of his comfort zone in order to break new musical ground.

The principle of ‘Equivalent Exchange’ states that in order to gain something new you must first sacrifice something of equal value. Kormac has applied this to his own writing process, forgoing his usual way of working but also in how he is working with the artists he is collaborating with for the show, bringing them songs and ideas at an earlier stage than he normally would. In this way, he is giving up his usual level of control over the songwriting, allowing the collaboration to develop something completely new.

Kormac debuted the show in March 2018 to a sold out Vicar Street with show visuals designed by leading Irish artist, Maser. It was the closing show of the St. Patrick’s Day Festival.

Kormac x Jafaris x Saint Sister

Kormac recently reworked Saint Sister’s beautiful track, ‘Causing Trouble,’ carving room for Jafaris to deliver some verses in his own inimitable style. The three acts performed the track live for 2FM’s Tracy Clifford in RTE’s legendary Studio 8. Watch the whole thing right here.

Announcing: Equivalent Exchange

I’ve been dying to tell you for ages. Over the last year, I’ve written an album’s worth of material for an orchestra. We’ll be performing it live in Vicar Street on Bank Holiday Sunday, March 18th with The Irish Chamber Orchestra, Kormac’s Big Band and a host of collaborators. I’m thrilled to have MASER on board, he’s produced this wonderful image and will be working with me on show visuals. Loah and Eimar Noone are the first musical collaborators to be announced with loads more to be revealed soon. We’re delighted that this will be the closing show of St. Patrick’s Festival Ireland. Huge thanks to Karen and the team for all their work so far. Tickets go on sale this Friday here
